In today’s competitive paper industry, optimizing production cost has become a top priority for mills. Dry Strength Additives (DSA) are an essential solution that enhances machine performance, improves paper quality, and significantly reduces cost per ton.
Dry Strength Additives are chemical agents added to the wet-end system to increase bonding between cellulose fibers. As a result, key mechanical properties such as burst, ring crush/SCT, tensile, and internal bonding are noticeably improved. This enables mills to achieve higher strength even when reducing basis weight (GSM) or increasing filler levels.
By improving fiber–fiber bonding, mills can reduce basis weight by 2–6 gsm depending on grade while maintaining required strength specifications. Lower GSM directly reduces pulp consumption, which is the largest cost factor in papermaking.
DSA creates a stronger internal bonding network, allowing mills to increase filler (PCC/GCC) while keeping mechanical properties stable. Since filler is cheaper than pulp, this adjustment lowers raw material cost.
Effective DSA performance reduces refining demand, improves retention, and lowers the consumption of several wet-end chemicals. This results in decreased energy costs and more efficient chemical usage.
Stronger paper reduces web breaks, enhances runnability, and allows higher machine speed. Increased output leads to lower production cost per ton of paper.
CRM Technology’s DSA products deliver high efficiency at low dosage and are compatible with various wet-end systems. Formulations are optimized for packaging paper, duplex board, office paper, and tissue. CRM Technology also provides on-site technical support to ensure stable and efficient mill operation.
